WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR STATE...

Presentation

NYS SPEAKERS BUREAU

Through a grant, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee may provide New York State schools a presenter who will share their personal experience with a crash. 

The speakers include:

  

  • Jacy Good - Speaking about her parent's deaths in a distracted driving crash

  • Marianne Angelillo - Speaking about her son's death in a high-speed crash

  • Karen Torres - Speaking about her father's death when he was struck and killed by a distracted driver while working along the highway

  • Hon. Shannon Filbert - Speaking about the importance of seat belt use and safe teen driving.  The ripple effect on her life as an unbelted 18 year-old teen passenger involved in a serious injury crash.

"Stay Awake! Stay Alive!" Drowsy Driving Prevention Challenge

WALK, BIKE, ROLL NY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Who Should Apply:

We are seeking students who are actively engaged in research, advocacy, or community projects related to pedestrian safety, bicycling safety, micromobility, or other vulnerable road user safety issues. Eligible applicants include those living and/or studying in New York state including:

  • High school students

  • Undergraduate students

  • Graduate students
     

Expectations for Scholarship Recipients:

Scholarship recipients will:

  • Prepare a poster presentation summarizing their research, project, or safety initiative

  • Present their work during the conference poster session/exhibit space.

  • Attend all conference sessions and actively engage with presenters and peers.

  • Potentially serve on a student panel or assist with conference activities, as determined by the planning committee.
     

This opportunity is well-suited for students interested in public health, transportation planning, engineering, public policy, safety advocacy, community organizing, or education, and provides strong resume and academic portfolio value.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Free registration for the Walk, Bike, Roll NY Conference

  • Travel stipend up to $150 (based on mode of transportation and distance)

  • Dinner allowance for the evening of 6/2

  • Supplies needed to complete the poster project

  • Range of networking opportunities with key professionals in mobility safety, research, engineering and other fields

  • Resume-building experience

Walk, Bike, Roll NY Student

Scholarship Opportunity

SADD, in partnership with the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF), is offering up to six (6) full scholarships for student leaders to attend the Walk, Bike, Roll NY Conference. The scholarship covers conference registration, travel, hotel accommodations, and meals.

"The New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) coordinates traffic safety activities in the state and shares useful, timely information about traffic safety and the state's highway safety grant program.

The Committee is comprised of thirteen agencies who have missions related to transportation and safety. The GTSC is chaired by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles and acts as the state's official liaison with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."
