TRAILERS AND SAFETY TIPS

Warm weather will be here soon, and in South Dakota that means our highways will be filled with recreational vehicles. It is always wise to remember that if you are pulling a boat, a camper, a load of side-by-sides, or a livestock trailer, there are several things we need to keep in mind. We want to enjoy the great outdoors, but we also want to arrive safely and keep ourselves and those around us safe.

Pulling a trailer for rodeos, camping, fishing, or other outdoor sports takes a little extra attention, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Before you leave, always check your hitch, safety chains, lights, brakes, and tire pressure on both the vehicle and trailer. Make sure the load is balanced, with about 10–15% of the weight on the hitch, and secure everything so it won’t shift. Whether you’re hauling horses, a camper, or a boat, proper weight distribution and equipment checks are the foundation of safe towing.

On the highway, give yourself more space and drive a little slower than usual. Trailers increase stopping distance and can sway if you brake or steer suddenly. If sway starts, ease off the gas and keep the wheel steady—don’t slam on the brakes. Downshift on hills to avoid overheating your brakes, and always watch your blind spots when changing lanes. Smooth, steady driving is especially important when hauling livestock, since animals shift their weight.

Backing up is where many people struggle, but the key is to go slow and make small corrections. A simple trick is to place your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go. Use a spotter if possible, and don’t be afraid to get out and look. Whether you’re backing into a rodeo stall, campsite, or boat ramp, patience and practice make all the difference.

Let’s all follow these simple guidelines and make some wonderful warm-weather memories!

Great practical tips — the hand-at-the-bottom-of-the-wheel trick for backing up trailers is something a lot of new drivers have never heard. For anyone capturing dashcam or road safety footage on highways, blur license plate tools make it easy to protect vehicle identities before sharing footage publicly.

A haircut generator is such a creative idea for exploring fresh looks I like how modern AI tools help users preview styles before making any real changes.

The results can be surprisingly realistic and inspiring.

A great feature for hairstyle enthusiasts.

After loading up the camper trailer for a weekend fishing trip, those safety tips on hitch checks, weight balance, and sway control really hit home and kept our drive smooth through the hills. We upgraded our towing setup afterward and discovered carid . Their heavy-duty hitch accessories and LED trailer lights installed perfectly, boosting our confidence on every haul and making long trips feel way more secure. The parts held up great through rough roads, turning potential worries into pure enjoyment with the family. Definitely worth it for safer adventures.

A lesser-known best score trick for Crossy Road is to count the timing between car waves, as many obstacles move in repeating loops.
