Overcoming Teenage Depression and Anxiety
Clinical depression is a serious illness that affects men and women of all ages. It can affect your thoughts, feelings, behavior, and general health. Studies show that high school–aged students with mental illness are more likely to drink, use drugs, and die from suicide (the third leading cause of death in youth). About 1 in 4 Americans is diagnosed with a mental illness at any given time. Often, mental illness begins to develop through high school and college year so we believe it deserves some attention by our SADD chapters.
The good news is that there is help for those who suffer from depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, many teens are reluctant to seek the help they need because of the stigma associated with depression.
What We Are Doing About It: SADD chapters have access to information, tools and campaigns that help them know the warning signs, end the stigma, and empower each other to get help.
