Touring Boston

Boston is a city made for students and for tourists. Between conference workshops and activities, we have built in several opportunities to experience this beautiful and historic city.

Friday Afternoon

Early arrivals can check their luggage at the hotel and head out to explore Cambridge or Boston on their own. Please see the information on Getting Around Boston below.

Don’t want to venture out? Not to worry. You are invited to SADD’s Birthday Party at the hotel from 3-7 PM, where you will find games galore for your enjoyment!

Saturday Afternoon
The conference registration fee includes a guided tour of Boston’s famous historic sights. The Yankee Bus company will provide a 3-hour guided tour on Saturday afternoon of these historic sights: Faneuil Hall, Old State House, Massacre Site, King’s Chapel, Granary Burial Ground, Old South Meeting House, Old North Church, and Paul Revere House.

Monday Afternoon
After the conference closes on Monday morning, many participants will have time to tour Boston on their own. There is so much to see and experience in Boston, from getting a great deal at Filene’s Basement to learning about the JFK presidency at the John F. Kennedy Library & Museum.

Getting Around Boston

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is called the "T" by Bostonians. This helpful mass transit system can transport you to almost anywhere you wish to go. The "T" runs daily service on buses, trains, and trolleys throughout Boston and surrounding towns. Look for the black T on a white circular sign to identify "T" stations. The Kendall Square "T" station, located right outside of the Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel, offers easy access: it’s two stops to Harvard Square, three stops to downtown Boston, and seven stops to Boston’s Logan International Airport. Tokens or passes can be purchased at each station. State-of-the-art fare collection equipment is being introduced on the Silver and Blue Lines and will soon be used throughout the subway system, buses, and trackless trolleys. For more information about the "T", visit www.mbta.com on the Web.

Conference Attire

Casual attire is appropriate for all conference activities except the final banquet. Although individual expression is important, please use good judgment when packing for the conference. Girls should refrain from wearing revealing clothing, including very short skirts and shorts, bare midriffs, and low necklines. Boys should cover their boxers and remember to remove their hats when inside. Clothing promoting alcohol, drugs, tobacco or other distasteful logos is not allowed. Remember, you are representing your state, city, school and, most importantly, yourself.
