Real Life SADD: Breaking the Silence About Dating Violence

The Fort Payne High School’s SADD chapter produced a video documentary in April 2007 about dating and domestic violence. The 20-minute documentary, “Breaking the Silence About Dating Violence,” takes the viewer through the dimensions of domestic violence: the definition of dating violence, the different forms of violence, warning signs, and what to do if you are a victim of domestic violence. Accomplished by using real-life stories from students, acted scenarios, and local experts speaking on the issues, their collaboration with the community to produce a comprehensive video is a remarkable achievement. Fort Payne SADD has received attention and awards from the Alabama State Senate, the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, and the City of Fort Payne. The SADD students have made several copies of the video to be disseminated throughout the nation to police departments, school resource officers, and various prevention organizations. They also presented a workshop about domestic violence and featuring the video at the Alabama SADD Conference in February 2008.
