Real Life SADD: Jungle Fever Fiesta
Catch Jungle Fever! As a part of the Great American Spit Out and Through With Chew Week, the Concord University Against Tobacco Coalition, and the university’s SADD chapter hosted Jungle Fever Fiesta to spread awareness of tobacco issues, particularly spit tobacco, to the campus community. Funded through a successful grant application to the West Virginia Division of Tobacco Prevention, the event was a huge accomplishment, with well over 100 people involved. The SADD chapter leveraged its resources to provide free refreshments (funnel cakes, pepperoni and cheese rolls, chips, and drinks), a wide variety of prizes (ranging from a sponsor t-shirt to a Nintendo GameCube), and a huge assortment of educational materials encouraging students to refrain from making destructive decisions. Participants watched a video about Gruen von Behrens, a survivor of oral cancer, played Tobacco Jeopardy, and enjoyed a fun, entertaining, and educational evening with a common message: Don’t monkey around with tobacco!
