THE ISSUE:
Every year in the United States, nearly 6,000 teens are killed in car crashes—that’s an average of 16 teens every day—making car crashes the No 1. cause of death for teens. During the summer, the deadliest season for teen drivers, that number jumps to nearly 23 teens whose lives are lost daily in often avoidable car crashes.

THE CONTEST:
As part of National Youth Traffic Safety Month (NYTSM), National Organizations for Youth Safety and The Allstate Foundation are challenging schools across the country to participate in “Act Out Loud: Raising Voices for Safe Teen Driving” to address the teen driving issue this spring and summer. Teens will be asked to submit their safe teen driving project ideas on www.ActOutLoud.org and a panel of judges will select the 10 best entries from across the country to compete for the chance to win up to $10,000. The 10 finalist teams will then document the implementation of their project online on the “Act Out Loud” Web site via blogs and videos. Once their projects are completed, they will be unveiled online where people across the country can vote for their favorite teen-led projects.

PRIZES:
Schools will compete for the chance to win one of the following prizes:

  • First Place: $10,000
