RECRUITMENT

SADD Signup (Membership Drive)
| Activity |
SADD Signup (Membership Drive) |
Time of Year |
September - SADD Calendar Fall |
Summary |
SADD Signup gives chapters the opportunity to demonstrate SADD's appeal to the students, thus resulting in increased participation. |
Objective |
To demonstrate to the school and community that safe, substance-free activities are fun and that teens are just as likely to respond to positive peer pressure as they are to respond to negative pressures to use alcohol and other drugs |
What to Do
- Begin by holding an initial meeting with a group of interested students.
- Brainstorm and create a diverse list of students. Be sure to include students of different groups and grades to include as much of the student body as possible.
- Plan a time to hold a subsequent meeting.
- Remember that personal contact is an effective way to attract students. Have students at the meeting choose several people from the list and invite them to attend the next SADD meeting with their friends.
- Invite members of other clubs in your school to attend your meetings. Foster opportunities for your groups to work together.
- Free food is always an incentive for prospective students. Ask a local merchant to donate free food, order pizza, or have snacks available at meetings. Doing this regularly will encourage people to return (especially if your meetings are after school).
- Make your own recruitment video, flier, poster, and/or announcement to the entire student body. Be sure to include the time, place, and purpose of the meeting and if you plan to serve food. Remember to make your chapter sound like a fun and important way to improve your school and community!
- Print and distribute table tents or fliers using the Top 10 Reasons to Join SADD, which can be found on the next page.
- Remember that the energy you create in the meetings is directly related to attendees' enthusiasm and will affect whether they join SADD.
- Introduce new attendees at the beginning of each meeting. If they are attending the meeting because a friend recruited them, be sure to recognize the recruiter as well.
- Send the faculty and staff a letter explaining the goals and mission of SADD. Invite them to attend your meetings and special events. Adult involvement will reinforce the importance SADD has in the school and community.
A successful Signup Drive will get your SADD chapter off on the right foot!
